Description

  • The LANcat 1500 LAN cable and activity Tester is an easy to use, handheld tester for qualifying and troubleshooting coax and twisted pair local area network cable installations
  • The unit measures aritical performance characteristics of LAN cable installations and correlates the results to applicable specifications.
  • Live network performance may also be monitored and analyzed for networks.
  • the Autotest function automatically performs all critical tests. the test results are compared to the appropriate LAN cable specifications, and a simple PASS/FALL indication is displayed.Features/functions:
  • Cable length (feet or meters) – the length of the cable is measured and up to three fault anomalies are displayed, using time domain reflectometry (tdr).
  • NEXT – near-end crosstalk (NEXT) on twisted pair networks is measured and displayed with an incremental frequency sweep between 5 and 10 MHz. The tester reports any split pairs found.
  • Attenuation – measured and displayed with an incremental frequency sweep between 5 and 10 MHz.
  • Wire Map – test all the cabling connections required for successful network operation.
  • Characteristic impedance – the measured impedance is displayed for coax cables and printed on all cable test reports.
  • Terminators – measures and displays terminator values for coax cables.
  • Noise – background noise is measured and reported only if it could be a problem for network operation (otherwise it is stored for printed report). Idle channel impulse noise can be measured over an extended time period.
  • Traffic Monitoring – The LANcat 1500 displays the continuous percentage of utilization along with a bar graph display of network activity Collisions and jabber are reported. there is audible feedback of network activity. A printed report is available showing average network utilization, peak utilization, percent collisions, packet count, and jabber detect. For 10BaseT networks, link pules are automatically generated and detected.
  • Printed reports – up to 50 cable test and one traffic test can be stored for printing.
  • Custom Cables – the connector arrangement, characteristic impedance, and nominal velocity of propagation (NVP) for up to four custom cable types can be defined. NVP may be measured and save for all cable types.
  • “Live” Cable Warning – the LANcat 1500 automatically detects telephone and other overvoltage signals on a cable and warns the user so that neither the LANcat nor other equipment on the line is damaged.Connectors:
  • BNC – shielded connector for coax cable.
  • RJ45 – standard 8-pin modular jack for twisted pair cable.
  • Printer – DB9P cannector to interface to a printer via a standard IBM-AT RS-232 serial cable, which may be obtained from you LANcat dealer or directly from Datacom Technologies.
  • 9VDC – power connector for the wall plug-in power supply that is supplied with the LANcat 1500.Controls:

    The LANcat 1500 is operated with a rotary function selector and four pushbutton switches.;

  • Rotary Function Selector – selects the operating mode: Autotest Noise, Traffic, Print, Extended Functions, Special Setup, Calibrate Cable, Custom Cable, Length, or Wire Map.
  • ON/OFF Button – turns the power on or off to the LANcat. When no activity has been detected for five minutes, the LANcat will automatically power down to conserve battery power. This does not apply to the Traffic and Noise tests, which run continuously until stopped by the user.
  • Up and Down Buttons – selects the cable type from a list of preset and user-defined types. these buttons are also used by some functions for selection scrolling, such as test number or printer speed.
  • SAVE Button – saves the results of an autotest in the LANcat’s memory. Product Details Title: Datacom Technologies Inc. LANcat 1500 Tester Description: Datacom Technologies Inc.
